Three Myths About Vitamins

It never ceases to amaze me the things people will believe.

I have partnered with a company that produces the best quality vitamins with the highest proven absorbability rate in the world. I can prove it – in writing.  The third party verification has been done, medical articles written and the doctors are on board with it.

Yet I’m not taken seriously. I hear comments like “oh, I like my Flinstones.” “My doctor says One A Day are good enough.” “We’ve always taken these vitamins.” “We use pharmaceutical grade vitamins that my doctor prescribes.” “I don’t need vitamins, I eat right.”

I can show you in writing that Flintstones and One A Day don’t get absorbed, you are literally throwing money away.  Pharmaceutical grade vitamins do have a higher absorption rate and are purer.  Their absorption rate is not higher than the ones I use, and their cost can be prohibitive.  And if you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always gotten.

Still, people what to stick with what they’ve been doing.  Why is that?

Three Myths About Vitamins

1. Doctors know better. In all the years of medical training, doctors are lucky if they get 1/2 day of training on supplements, vitamins and non-pharmaceutical products.  How long as your doctor been in practice?  Has he read the articles in the American Medical Association Journal about vitamins?  Or are you just trusting him because he went to school longer than you did?

2. How can stores sell a product if it doesn’t work? There are no laws that say a product has to work.  If the product is proven to be unsafe, the FDA can get involved.  However, anyone can put a product on the market.  It’s up to you to prove it’s unsafe and then they get involved.  And no where does it say the product has to work!  (Read more here)

3. I can get what I need from my food.  Not really. Most of us don’t eat enough of the ‘right’ foods.  Also, there’s more pesticides and herbicides used in growing food – and that’s not good stuff to eat.  We live in society where we no longer sit down three times a day and eat good meals – we’re too busy.  It would take a lot of work and time to consistently get the proper vitamins and minerals from your food, even then – I’m not sure you can do it.

What to do with these people?

1.  Listen to what they are really saying. Maybe it’s the cost that worries them.  They just don’t know how to tell you that.  Be prepared to show how it’s cost effective to take a great vitamin.  We have vitamin programs that start at $20 a month – and they work.

2. Be kind. Sometimes, you just can’t win.  Don’t lose a friendship over vitamins.  Keep sharing your story over time.  The best evidence is the kind you can see.  If you have more energy, don’t get sick, and are in good shape – sooner or later, your friends will ask you what you are doing.

3. Don’t be a know it all. I know sometimes you just want to shake them – but you can’t.  Use the feel, felt, found method.  I know how you feel.  I felt that way too.  Here’s what I’ve found out.

4. Don’t talk bad about their doctor. Just show them your evidence.  If you talk bad about their doctor, that looks like you are talking bad about their choices!  Let the evidence speak for itself.

5. Keep the lines of communication open. A ‘no’ today may be a ‘yes’ tomorrow.  Ask if you can stay in touch.
