Backcountry Winery

Amber and Preston

Amber and Preston

Preston and Amber Gable decided one day they wanted to make wine.  They bought an acreage with an old barn, fixed it up, planted some vines and now they have this winery that has a grand opening next weekend.

Of course, that’s the short story – and it sounds pretty, lovely and simple doesn’t it?  Sometime in the future they may remember it that way. The real story is much more interesting!  They did indeed buy an acreage, and they spent many back breaking hours converting a barn that was ready to fall down into the show piece it is today.  You can read about the entire process on their blog at www.backcountrywinery.com

Then there is the process of learning about growing the vines, finding the right juices to make wines now while their own vines grow, marketing their products, deciding when to be open and still work full time jobs and lead exciting lives as young people and be involved with wonderful families.

Their grand opening is Saturday, May 21 from 11 am to 6 pm.  They are located at 3533 Fenton Avenue, Stratford, Iowa.  It’s actually out in the country, but your GPS will take you there.  We are very excited because they will also be at JunqueFest this year!  So if you miss their grand opening, you can come to Webster City May 27-29 and sample their wine during our JunqueFest.

Event space

They have the loft of the barn available for events, parties, wedding receptions, class reunions and more.  It’s a fabulous space, holds between 150-200 people and I imagine dates will fill up fast!  Contact them by email, backcountrywinery@gmail.com for rates and information.

I was paid nothing for this review, I was not asked to do this review, I’m thrilled to be able to support new business in our community!
