Let’s talk about food.
I’m a food baby. I don’t like most vegetables. Green beans, romaine lettuce and well, nothing else – those are the two that I like. Peas are ok, corn is out. Tomatoes – oh hell no. Broccoli – can’t get past the smell. Cauliflower I will eat, but what’s the point? It doesn’t taste like much. Onions, mushrooms, peppers — all no.
Like I said, I’m a food baby.
Then there’s preparation time. I don’t care for cooking either. Not that its hard – it’s not. I’d rather be reading a book, writing a blog post or tweeting.
IBS has made me lactose intolerant, so no dairy like milk and ice cream. I can eat aged cheese and be ok. But the rest goes right through me.
Throw in the fact I’m the Chamber Director and take my job seriously – and try to support the local restaurant members.
What does all of this sound like to you? I know, EXCUSES. And really, that’s what they are.
So here’s my plan for the next four months:
gluten free, no milk or ice cream, no sweets. An extended lenten, if you will. My goal is to treat my body well, give it a chance to heal. I use Melaleuca products, so my supplements are covered, as are my protein shakes, GC shakes (to regulate blood sugar), Access bars (to burn fat and give me a ‘sweet’ taste without the awful sugar).
It’s not a case of “I’ll never eat that again.” It’s a case of “I deserve to feel better.”
How can you help me?
- Share some easy to make recipes that involve gluten free stuff and some veggies you think I might like.
- Go out to eat with me. Watch as I order food prepared special. Let’s enjoy a meal together, laugh and talk about other things than dieting.
- Send notes of encouragement. I’m on facebook and twitter (just look for debworks).
Next update next Sunday!
Have you tried artichokes? They’re wonderful dipped in melted butter, because all you taste is the butter!
Hi Deb, love your updates! 🙂 I am following your health journey… so what are your plans during times when you will be craving some sweets? I am also doing my best to cut down on “sugar” and using Stevia as my sweetener.
Carolyn — no I have not, but I will now! So how do you cook them?
Chloe – I use Melaleuca products and they have a bar called ACCESS that I eat 1/2 hour before my workout and it burns fat and helps the muscles recover quickly. My favorite is chocolate orange. It really helps – and it also gets me to workout. I do have some lemon drops and will suck on just one if I just can’t stand it.
And ladies – thank you for reading this blog and the suggestions!
