Unretreat – Just Get Away

112It’s a good idea to get away from it all.

But sometimes you can’t get away from work.

Out of those two thoughts the first Unretreat was born.  Becky had been kicking the idea around for a few years.  I grabbed a hold of it and tried to plan a large unretreat – didn’t work.  Jon finally said “this is it, we are doing this.”

Turns out it just needed to be simple.

The objective was twofold: get away and work in solitude on something you couldn’t get to at home.  Regroup and use the brain trust to explore the things you were working on.

Jon is a pastor at Grabill Missionary and they offered use of their church (and wifi) so we each had a room to work in.  We stayed at a hotel and left each morning for the church.  It started on Sunday and ended on Wednesday afternoon for me.

I ate well, slept well and worked on two projects.  I learned that it would be okay to fail, and that failure could turn into something totally different – if I let it.

I was given advice from people who only had my best interests at heart.

I met a family that took me into their home and went from virtual to real in my experience.

There is power in stepping away from your surroundings and getting a fresh new perspective on things.

We were a small group – and that turned out to be the best way to do things.  117

Glenda – I’m with you, I’m ready too. Calendar pretty full until after November though.

Paul – I believe the pleasure was all mine.

Mary-Lynn – as George would say, didn’t your mean BIGG steps? lol You are right – its a matter of putting one foot in front of the other isn’t it?
