I know, I’ve heard it already. Seriously? Pokemon Go? A bunch of people walking around like zombies with heads in their phones …
I started playing last Sunday. Well, not really. I started playing on Becky’s phone in Aberdeen in the middle of July. We walked around downtown in search of Pokemon. Sometimes we drove around parking lots. We laughed a lot while chasing down ratatats and pidgeys. It was actually fun. Then last Sunday I decided I’d just go ahead and download the free app, I mean why not?
Each day this week I’ve gone outside and walked around looking for Pokemon. Before work, at lunch and sometimes after work. This is walking I was not doing before. While I’m out I’m seeing lots of people and having conversations I would’ve missed if I hadn’t been walking. I got to see the very cool sculptures in the morning fog on Wednesday. I walked downtown streets at lunch time. I’ve shared the game with several people this week. In fact, Chad, Kelli and I have figured out a way to teach a class August 30 on how to use Pokemon Go for small businesses!
Importantly for my health, I’m walking more – adding thousands of steps into my routine each week. And I hear there’s a Harry Potter game coming too ….
You should see the Pappajohn Sculpture Park in downtown Des Moines. We drove by there the other day and it is literally SWARMING with people playing that game. You can hardly see the grass on the ground, there’s just that many people!
wow – we meant to go there this weekend, but got hung up doing other things in Des Moines!
