Sunday Update: Hibernation

Tai Chi DemonstrationIt’s my tendency in cold weather to stay home.  It’s warm at home.

This week I bought a tv, Chromecast and learned how to watch Netflix on the tv.  Along with Hulu, Youtube, any website I wanted and anything online that moved.  I don’t have cable or even regular tv.  I haven’t had in years.  But I do watch Netflix, about 20 minutes a night – on my iPad before bed.  Lately I’ve been watching Ted talks.  My friend Lisa got me hooked on Sons of Anarchy while we were on vacation in North Carolina.  Today I watched all of Season 3, on my new tv, while I was working on website things.  It felt like cheating, really.

What’s that got to do with staying home you ask?  Well, now I can also watch tai chi videos, yoga videos and other exercise videos from the luxury of my home.  On those days I’m not at the gym for boot camp, I can be on my living room floor (naked if I want) stretching, doing yoga or tai chi.  It’s just another way to be at home and getting exercise.

I’ve now gone through two rounds of antibiotics and one round of prednisone in an effort to eliminate this chronic sinusitis problem.  I used to get it two times a year, but this time it’s been about 3 years since I’ve had it.  I still feel like I’ve been punched in the face.  And prednisone is no joke either.  Good Lord that stuff makes me nuts.  The good news is I’ve not gained weight, in fact I’ve lost 4 pounds in the last month.  So, nice and steady is doing it.

How am I slacking?  I missed a lot of boot camp these last two weeks.  I just can’t exercise when my head feels like it is going to explode.  I plan on getting back in the saddle next week (that would be tomorrow).  I’ve also not beat myself up about it either.  I’ve been doing some good things too: stocking my house with groceries that are good for me, making my home conducive to proper exercise, thinking and reading about positivity and keeping in the conversation about wellness.

It’s really important to surround yourself with people who are doing the right thing.  It’s too easy to fall off the path and staying in the conversation with the likes of Todd Jordan, Justin Levy, Leah Feltz and others who are about better health is a good thing.

Winter is coming, but I’m not letting it stop me.  I’m just figuring out how to make it work!

Hey there! Have you ever tried a neti pot when your sinus go to hell? I have found it is an amazing asset to clearing out the goop!

I do – and use it pretty regularly. It’s been a stressful summer (both good and bad stress) and I believe stress settles in my sinuses!
