Build A Relationship
Mack Collier called it (again) – you can read it here – this whole social media business is about building relationships – not so much about promoting your product. How many of us are just tweeting away and blogging away – and not thinking so much about creating relationships? And it’s not just online we do this – we need to build relationships in our communities.
I used to work in corporate America – and was the person people came to in order to ‘find out things’. I knew a lot, but not really. I did know how to ask a lot of questions and talk to the right people. Want to find out about a CEO of a company? Be nice to his assistant (they used to be secretaries). Want help with your tech problems? Talk to the IT guy once in awhile. Find out what first person shooter games he/she likes. Be nice to the janitor – they have the hardest job in the building. And they know ALL the goings on in the building as well.
I keep thinking about this verse from Matthew 25:40 “And the King will say, “I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you did it to me.” Pretty simple thinking: you never know who you are talking to!
Dog Walk Blog
How big do you have to be to get noticed? New bloggers ask themselves that a lot. Shoot – so do old bloggers! Is this high school all over again? (you know, are you popular? Which clicque do you run in?) I hope not – I had enough of that crap in high school. http://www.dogwalkblog.com/2009/01/11/i-was-rejected-by-adage/ The advice is great: focus on communities who recognize that even small dogs are worth paying attention!
I keep getting all these inane groups to join, like Social Networking Group that Pays! Hang Out, Have Fun, Get Paid. Come on! Who are they kidding?
Madoff
Why is Bernie Madoff not in jail? Really. If I did what he did, guess where I’d be? Jail.
Expenses
I’ve been checking out conferences coming up this year. I’m noticing a lot of them are over $500 (not including hotel and airfare). Do people that go to these fund their trips out of their own pockets? Or are they sponsored by a company? Is that the company you work for – or a company that wants your endorsement? Just asking. Lots of people would love to go – but can’t swing the money. Any recommendations for ones to go to that don’t cost your first born? Or how to get there sponsored by a company/person/etc?
Ontological Argument
Sunday in church the preacher said we were having an ontological argument about being a Christian. It was the Sunday to revisit our baptism, and talk about stewardship.
I had to look that up. Ontological arguments are arguments, for the conclusion that God exists, from premises which are supposed to derive from some source other than observation of the world, e.g. from reason alone (thank you plato.stanford.edu).
Isn’t the existence of God proved by what we call faith? And you can’t reason with faith. No wonder there have been ontological arguments for thousands of years. And on that note – I’m off to ponder ontology…………
