This space is unused. It sits directly behind my office. This is a fall shot.
I never really looked at it, until I really looked at it. There’s room for a couple of tables and chairs there. Wifi is accessible. The view to the west is the Stark Plaza, a green space designed to provide a place for people to enjoy listening to music, watching shows and live performances. Across the alley is the bank.
Imagine sitting there, working on your laptop, enjoying a cup of coffee or a cold drink. It’s relatively quiet, conducive to getting some work done.
It’s located right in the heart of downtown. Wouldn’t you rather attend a meeting here than in a stuffy room?
Yes, I know it’s winter right now. But I’m planning for spring and summer. I think I’ll start looking for unique tables and chairs made by a local artist ….
This is just one spot in a town with many cool spots. Have you taken a walk around your town? Can you find some neat places to do different things? Fargo converted an alley into a place to hold an Alley Fair. Live music, food, vendors — and it was a nice use of an unused space.
Debworks is embarking on a project that includes walking your town with you and pointing out just these sort of things. This project will include: different uses of private and public spaces in your community, guided brainstorming for one business or a group of businesses focusing on three topics important to your community, online marketing question and answer session and a hands on marketing presentation specific to your community. If you’re interested, email me at deb@debworks.com or phone 641-580-0103.
I think that would be perfect. I think of downtown Ames and all the fun little places they have for people to sit down, relax, work, whatever they want. Good luck with transforming the space!
Thanks Val —- we hope to find a couple of more spaces too!
