Movie Reviews

Day 87: Watching Movies with my pop

Nine:  Daniel Day Lewis, Sophia Loren, Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz, Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson, Judi Dench

Mama spoils, wife gives up (finally) and girlfriends enjoy, mostly.  Loved the music, scenery was fun — the message was good.  It shook me up, as this guy was really an asshole and all about himself.  Yet, you wanted to like him.  It’s a familiar story for me and one I’m trying to rewrite in my personal life.

Eat, Pray, Love:  Julia Roberts, Javier Bardem

Book was great, movie held pretty close to the book.  Some simple truths show up in the movie.  “Stop wearing your wishbone where your backbone ought to be.”  “There’s a crack (or cracks) in everyone…that’s how the light of God gets in.”  Definitely a chick flick – and how I wish men would watch it and get it.

A Single Man: Colin Firth

I tried, really I did.  One redeeming factor: I got to watch Colin Firth.  Him – I like.  The movie – not much at all.

American Meth: narrated by Val Kilmer

Documentary about the scourge drug, meth.  I learned Hitler shot up every day from 1942 to his death.  I learned that meth destroys your teeth, your brain, your life.  I learned that crack cocaine has nothing on meth.  Got kids?  You might want to watch this movie.

Okay — so why the movie reviews?  Because I actually took some time for myself this weekend and watched movies.  I recommend taking some time off and doing a mindless thing or two.  It helps clear your mind, recharge your batteries and sometimes you even have fun.
