140 Tweet Up in Des Moines

Coffee anyone?

Coffee anyone?

The 140 State of Now Iowa community will be kicking off the 2013 World Food Prize week with a coffee tweet up at Java Joes!  http://javajoescoffeehouse.com/ and located at 214 4th Street in Des Moines Monday, October 14 from 9 to 10:30 am.   This week will see world leaders and media in Des Moines and we think it is appropriate that our cutting edge community jump start the week with some java and treats.

One of our community members (@JPlovesCOTTON) works with one of this year’s laureates and suggested a tweet up.  In fact, we thought a gathering of social media people would be a great way to kick off the week! We are creating a unique opportunity for the 140/State of Now community to join in the celebration with a coffee hour and catching up with friends we don’t see in person nearly enough.

The World Food Prize was created in 1987 by the late Nobel Peace Prize winner,Dr. Norman Bourlaug, and is the foremost international award recognizing individuals who have contributed landmark achievements in increasing the quality, quantity or availability of food in the world. Borlaug is credited with saving 1 billion lives during The Green Revolution in the mid-20th century.

Janice and her team at Monsanto have promised to have great coffee and pastries available for us to enjoy as we visit, snap photos and get our online communities pumped up about the week ahead with Iowa and the World Food Prize in the spotlight. Please visit our facebook page event and let us know you are coming so we can plan accordingly. https://www.facebook.com/events/239924772826081/ I hope you can join us.

Are you unsure what this group of people, 140/State of Now people, are?  We are bloggers, tweeters, businesses and people committed to looking hard at the State of Now in today’s technology.  We try to have a conference once a year and discuss, share and tell stories about moving forward in today’s technology.  We are Ag, Teachers, Businesses, Artists, and perhaps even you!  Stop by, look for me (Deb Brown) and I’ll introduce you to a few people.  It’s coffee and conversation – a great way to bring people together!

I hope you have a great turnout! I’m looking forward to hearing about the discussion. Will you be using a special hashtag during the tweet-up? I’d be there, but I should be in a tractor.

Good question! I will ask Janice Person and will tweet/facebook out the hashtag. Have fun in the tractor with your little ones!
