The Past is Done
The days of working at one job for 35 years are gone. We no longer punch in, work 8 hours, and punch out. Some of us work for ourselves, and work long days and often 6 days a week. Some of us work two or three part time jobs.
Young people don’t expect to stay at one job more than three or four years before they move on to the next job (often not even that long). Work that used to be done by man is now being done by a machine. The days of stability in the work place is gone.
We’re finding out that we really must create work we love and find ways to do work we love. Or at least create the environments we want to work in. Start earlier, or start later. Dress casual, ride skateboards at work. Listen to music we like. Flex time. Unlimited vacation. There are many ways to make work more enjoyable.
Some of us are working on many small projects that bring in different sizes of revenue that end up paying the bills and make us happy at the same time. Writing a book, making quilts, teaching a class, crafting, building things — lots of small things that add up.
We are piecing together the stuff that matters to us and generating revenue while helping ourselves and others. Consider that for a moment – how could your life be different, maybe better, if you did some things you wanted to do?
How could the community you lived in be different, maybe better, if you tried to help it instead of told it what to do?
