I asked Chris Brogan today if he was living his three words for 2012. Temple, Untangle, and Practice. He answered with “Yes, everyday.” Chris started the three word process in 2006 in lieu of making resolutions. What three words can you use that help you to define your goals and experiences?
Separating, relationships, power — Those were the three words I focused on as a personal goal this year, 2012, as my year moved forward. I alluded to them in a post, but didn’t write them down. Nevertheless, this past year has been filled with creating new, powerful relationships that are pointing me to an amazing 2013. With some trepidation I also stepped into separating myself from relationships that are toxic and no longer work for me.
I decided it was time to focus on me, my dreams and my goals. It was not necessary to be swayed by other people’s problems and dilemmas. When possible, I tried to give them ideas and directions. Most often though, I’ve found out that people don’t want new ideas – they want to complain.I am not the complaint department. If you complain to me I’m going to ask “what is it you want?” and expect an answer to that question. If all you want to do is complain, I won’t have much time for you. There’s no kind way to tell someone that either. They don’t get it. C’est la vie.
I have a video shoot tomorrow with Melaleuca and flew out a day early to Salt Lake City. I’ve been here before and enjoy the people, sites and the mountains. Today I’ve spent the day in the hotel room. I even ordered room service. It’s been wonderful to rest, read, think, and ponder. I’ve been thinking about which words I want to choose for 2013. I know I want to travel more and be paid to write about what I see and do while traveling. I know I want to continue to work with small businesses and nonprofits on getting up to speed with offline and online marketing. I know I want to spend time with my mom while I still have her. I know I want to take better care of my body and get healthier. Seems like there’s some things I know! I’ll be spending next month on concentrating on what three words I can use to direct my focus for 2013.
I’d also love to hear what words you are considering and why!
After reading this post the first three words that came to mind were FAMILY FRIENDS and FINANCES…there’s another “F” word but that would make 4 and you only asked for 3!! 🙂
Why you asked…Family…I want to focus on making the most of the time I can with my family. Making the little things count, strengthening relationships, making them my number one priority.
FRIENDS…Like you, I’ve decided that if you are not part of my solution then you are part of my problem. I have enough problems and don’t need or WANT anyone else’s.
FINANCES…I made some big decisions in 2012 that directly had to do with finances. 2013 will be the year that I come into my own…
LAS
Lisa – love it! If I know you (and I do) I can see you making a sign with those words on it as a great beautiful reminder. You rock sister. las
YES….A SIGN!!!!
🙂
I love this post. I never ever thought of thinking or planning a future or goals from this perspective.
So now that you have invaded my brain with this new thought process I am ready with an answer. My business cards say; ” Ease Joy Peace of Mind.
So now I will let thoughts come that bring to a better understanding of how to dedicate myself to realizing more of those things.
Thanks Deb
Love those words Erin! I will be enjoying watching you use those words throughout the next year.
Observe, create, communicate. I need to “zoom in” on details and “zoom out” on trends and big-picture scenarios. Then create something that conveys a cogent message, and communicate that message using whatever media is most appropriate.
Let’s see how far I get in this process. If I manage to do it right it should attract all kinds of good things and interesting people (like you).
Wow Alicia – like where you are going with this. Post your three words somewhere you will see it everyday! Can’t wait to see what will happen in 2013 for you.
