Every so often I get a press release that bears repeating.  The following is one of those.  I love how Latham Seeds supports our community and I think we can help them.

Fundraising Campaign Underway to Endow County 4-H Scholarship

SHARE YOUR STORY, HELP BRIGHTEN THE FUTURE OF FRANKLIN COUNTY 4-H’ers

HAMPTON, Iowa – February 23, 2012 – Empowering youth to reach their full potential, working and learning in partnership with caring adults is the mission of the 4-H program.

“We’re on a mission to empower youth right here in Franklin County!” says Darwin Arends, president of the Franklin County 4-H Foundation.   “To help ensure the future of 4-H in our county, we’re on a mission to raise $20,000 to permanently endow a scholarship.  Our primary fundraising effort involves writing a book to tell the stories of past and present 4-H members, county farm families, businesses and historical sites that have played a significant role in the success of our great county.”

All former and current Franklin County residents are invited to share their story in the book we’re writing.  Preserve your family’s story for generations to come by downloading a form from www.lathamseeds.com or pick up a form from the Franklin County Extension Office.

The deadline to submit stories for publication in the book is July 31, 2012.  A $100 minimum contribution is required to have a story published, and a variety of donor levels are available.  Checks should be made payable to the Iowa 4-H Foundation with a memo “Franklin County 4-H Endowment – permanent scholarship fund.”   All proceeds from this book will benefit the Franklin County 4-H Permanent Endowment Fund.

“We can help fulfill the 4-H mission of helping youth ‘reach their full potential’ by encouraging 4-H members to continue their education beyond high school,” says Shannon Latham, who is spearheading the book-writing efforts.  “Many county 4-H’ers can use help achieving their educational goals, so that’s why we’re making endowing a permanent 4-H scholarship a priority.”
