Brown Shoes for Sore Toes

I had a procedure done last week on my toes.  Wait, that sounds a bit like plastic surgery, doesn’t it?

I had my big toenails yanked out.  Well — that’s not better.  It sounds like some kind of torture.

One more time.  I had very bad ingrown toenails, all of my life.  Finally – I went to a doctor who solved that problem.  She took them out.  Along with the toenails.

So for one week I’ve been barefoot.  Or wearing rubber Crocs that are the biggest shoes I own – and they rub on my toes.  Far from a pleasant experience.

I’ve been sandal shopping in Iowa in November.  Target, Pamida, Payless, JC Penneys, Younkers, Dollar Store, Wal-Mart — no one had them.  Not even Long Term Medical Supply had them!  They did give me a couple of phone numbers to call.

It’s winter in Iowa.  Snow will come.  It will get very cold.  My toenails will take 3 to 6 months to grow back.  Just about in time for spring.

Finally at my wits end, I found myself at Brown Shoes in Mason City.  It’s a store where my dad buys his diabetic shoes.

I walked in wearing flip flops and both toes were wrapped in gauze.  It was obvious I needed help.

To my delight, I was greeted by a young man who asked me what he could do to help me.  I pointed to my feet.  It didn’t even phase him.  His response was “let’s see what we can do to help you.”  And he asked me a lot of questions.  Did I want womens or mens shoes?  Did they need to be shoes?  Would house shoes work?  What size did I wear?  What exactly did I have done to my feet?  Would I consider a wide width mens sandal?  BINGO!

SAS makes a sandal, leather, with good foot support and wonderful traction.  It’s called the Bravo.  And they had it in stock.  It looks wonderful, feels great and fit perfectly.

The cost?  $145.  Worth every penny.  I got a young man who listened to me, asked the right questions and found me the perfect shoe. The day of the shoe salesman is not dead.  He’s alive and well at Brown Shoes in Mason City.
