Witnessing

We are called to witness. Yes, as Christians, we are called to witness.

Whoa!  Where is this post heading?  I know – hard to believe that I’m talking about witnessing.  Yet, here I am doing it.

I woke up thinking “today I GET to go to church!”  That made me smile when I think of those that don’t realize the greatness that can happen in church.  For me, I go to a church filled with my friends.  It’s an extension of our community.  Neighbors, friends, old and young – we’re all there.  We smile at the children during the children’s sermon.  We sing the songs, often not very loudly.  We listen to Pastor Harry when he preaches the sermon.  Sometimes we remember it, sometimes we don’t.  We all go to the fellowship hall for lunch.  We take turns preparing it and serving it.  This is church.

Witnessing is what we do the rest of the week.

My grandson is a Jehovah Witness, like his mother and grandmother.  They go to the Hall on Saturdays.  Many of their friends will go door to door and preach the gospel.  That’s a serious person doing some serious witnessing.

What about the rest of us?  I think we can show some kindness to each other.  Feed someone who is hungry.  Smile at a stranger.  Be your word – do what you say you’ll do.  Walk in the paths that Jesus set down for us.  It doesn’t mean go stand on street corners and preach the gospel.  It doesn’t mean call the world sinners and tell them to repent.  It simply means — be kind.  Do unto others as you would have them do to you.

We have all been broken at some time in our lives.  There are many people going through hard times right now.  Not just financial, but spiritual as well.  It’s hard to be broken and let the world see it. But it’s the brokenness that lets your light shine through!  So look for the light friends, and see if you can be kind to someone this week.

To me, that is witnessing.
