When I grew up I played in the corn and the wild grass
and under the biggest tree in the county
I climbed many trees
and walked the creek with my grandpa in search of a big fish
I played around tombstones and
pretended I was a preacher
In the grass under a circle of trees we were fairies
and ate the wild berries that grew
my brother and I found arrowheads and
told stories of Indians and pioneers that lived there first
it was not only our history
it was the first history of the county we shared
the first sod house
the first cabin
the first school house
the first cemetery
was on our land
we could see the entire world from our hill
the highest point in the county
when I grew up
My thanks to the local Franklin County folks that filmed this video – they rock!
