We have all done it. Circled the waters like a shark. We’re bored. Nothing good is on tv. There’s no good book to read in the house. Same ol’ crap on Facebook. Let me to to the kitchen and see what snack I can get.
I go look in the fridge. I go look in the freezer. I go look in cabinet number one. I go look in cabinet number two. I go back to the fridge. I’m circling the waters like a shark. Surely there’s SOMETHING I can snack on! I find some peanut butter and crackers and a soda and I go back to the living and channel surf again.
I’ve just mindlessly ingested 1,000 calories at 8 pm at night while not doing any exercise and right before bedtime.
That is called circling the waters like a shark.
For the last two weeks I’ve tried fasting for 12 hours each day, starting right after dinner (supper) until 12 hours later. No sharking allowed. I usually make 10 hours easily, 12 hours has been a stretch – but I’m getting better at it. It’s one of the suggestions made by Melanie Plain the course I’m taking – and it’s working. I’m down 15 pounds since early November. Yes, I am eating much better. More chicken, fish, beans, veggies, salads. No wheat, cut way back on sugar and eating a little fruit. I’m faithfully taking my Melaleuca vitamins and drinking my protein shakes. And no sharking, one of the hardest habits to break.
Yup, it’s an easy thing to do,. I always wonder how much of it is habit, boredom, desire for sugar, fat, salt, crunch, or creamy mouth feel. All which can trip me up.
right Jean? It’s helping to fast those 12 hours.
