Small Town Opportunity for Connections

2010 Jeff and Becky

The historic Fox Theatre in Hutchinson, Kansas will host the 3rd State of Now/140 Character Conference on November 8.  Becky McCray and Jeff Pulver are producing a day of presentations by over 50 different speakers.  Topics include Agriculture, Media, Business, Tourism, music, politics, culture, education and more.  Each 10-minute presentation will cover how the State of Now (technology today and use of the internet) affects their lives and businesses.  It’s a perfect opportunity to find out how different people in all kinds of fields are utilizing the technology of now.  You can find more information online at http://smalltown2012.stateofnow.com.  Tickets are on sale for $40 (normally $100) if you use the code “friendofst12”. Lunch is included.

Jeff Pulver and I are excited to be producing our third conference in Hutchinson!  The community represents small town America at its best and we look forward to seeing many individuals and small businesses attending again this year,” said Becky McCray.

This year there will be a free two-hour Unconference at the new Fairfield Inn and Suites located at 1111 Lorraine in Hutchinson on Wednesday, November 7.  It is open to the public and will be from 4 to 6 pm.  Speakers will present in ten-minute segments. Everyone who has an idea for a talk or discussion that’s NOT on the agenda for Thursday can suggest it for the Unconference. The audience will decide which ones to hear. This event is a PowerPoint Free Zone – there are no visuals at any State of Now Conference. The presentations will all be recorded and played during lunch on Thursday and also posted online.

I will be presenting with Leslie McClellan on the topic Bringing the World to Your Small Town.  We’ll talk about how tourism can utilize the technology of now to bring people to you.  Rumor has it we might dance too.

This is an event I encourage all small town people to attend.  It’s an opportunity to meet other like minded people, hear stories of those who are using the tools and technology and a time to develop new friendships that result in ongoing learning and growth.  This year I’m taking my ‘baby’ brother (ok, he’s 52) and we are roadtripping through Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and maybe Nebraska.  It’s been a long time since I’ve traveled with Jon — since we were kids and my dad was still driving!  Jon is not a techy at all – and I am.  It’s an opportunity to show him my world, meet some of my friends and of course travel.

Will we see you there?
